Lost dog found in Miami Gardens to be returned to owner in Tennessee

China believed to have been used for unlawful breeding

MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. – A dog that was stolen from its owner in Memphis, Tennessee, eight months ago was found in Miami-Dade County.

The dog's owner, James Haney, said he found a photo of his dog, China, on Instagram Wednesday and learned that she had been in the care of Miami-Dade County Animal Services since Sept. 5.

Animal Services officials said China was found wandering the streets of Miami Gardens. She was taken to an animal shelter, where she was provided with veterinary care.

Officials said China was believed to have been used for unlawful breeding, which  might have been the motive behind the theft.

The Animal Services Department waived all redemption fees for Haney and provided China with a free microchip.

South Florida animal advocate Dhalia Canes is working with animal services to get China back to her owner in Tennessee.
