SFWC accepting Halloween pumpkins, other items for animals

Donations accepted daily from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.

MIAMI – The South Florida Wildlife Center is accepting unwanted fresh pumpkins or carved pumpkins and other items for its rehabilitating raccoons, opossums and squirrels.

Donated pumpkins must be free of wax, paint or other non-natural products.

Besides pumpkins, the organization also has an Amazon baby registry, where people can buy items needed for all animals at the center, including blankets, bird feeders, baby monitors and even TVs.

SFWC officials said the pumpkins provide enrichment activities for the animals, and carved pumpkins help teach raccoons how to forage.

Donations are accepted from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. seven days a week.
