Victor Menezes, 20, believed he struck tree, police say

MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. – A 20-year-old man has received a citation in a hit-and-run crash that injured a Miami-Dade Police aide.

According to Miami-Dade police spokeswoman Jennifer Capote, the 56-year-old victim, who has not been identified, was struck by a car Sunday while conducting a traffic crash investigation in the area of Southwest 127th Avenue and 244th Street.

Capote said the man was gathering information when he heard a car speeding north on 127th Avenue.

Capote said the aide told the driver of the crashed vehicle to step to the side, and the aide was struck by the oncoming car.

According to Capote, the victim was thrown back against the parked vehicle, and the driver of the car that struck him, identified as Victor Menezes, never stopped.

The victim was taken to Kendall Regional Medical Center with multiple fractures to his leg and a laceration to his right hand.

Capote said Menezes believed he struck a tree and will be cited with careless driving causing serious bodily injury.
