Burglar smashes through Deerfield Beach store's glass door

$10,000 worth of paintings, computer stolen

DEERFIELD BEACH, Fla. – A determined burglar spent about 6 minutes attempting to smash an antique store's glass door Feb. 6 in Deerfield Beach before he finally got inside, authorities said.

According to Broward Sheriff's Office spokeswoman Joy Oglesby, the burglar threw a device at the door twice and did several karate-like back kicks in his attempts to shatter the glass.

Surveillance video shows the man chipping away at the door after he was unsuccessful in breaking the glass.

He was finally able to pry the glass off the door's frame shortly after 2 a.m.

Video shows the man and an accomplice taking two paintings worth $10,000 and a computer from Antiques Buyers Estate at 2745 W. Hillsboro Blvd.

Oglesby said the men arrived at the store in a dark-colored vehicle.

They were wearing hooded sweatshirts and jeans, and one had a bandanna covering the lower half of his face.

Anyone with information about the burglary is asked to call Broward County Crime Stoppers at 954-493-TIPS. A reward of up to $3,000 is being offered for information that leads to an arrest and conviction.
