Police officer accused of domestic violence is relieved of duty

Coral Gable police veteran under investigation

CORAL GABLES, Fla. – A Coral Gables police officer was relieved of duty on Friday during an ongoing investigation.

Officer Manuel Rivero was with the Coral Gables Police Department for about 17 years.

Chief of Police Edward J. Hudak Jr. took his marked car after the South Miami Police Department reported Rivero was accused of domestic violence.

Officer Kelly Denham said in a statement that Rivero was the subject of an ongoing criminal investigation involving the Miami-Dade County State Attorney’s Office.

The Coral Gables Internal Affairs unit was also investigating Rivero, according to Denham.

Dehnam said Rivero turned in his badge, weapon and vehicle on Saturday.
