79-year-old man dies after being struck in hit-and-run crash

Police search for driver of red Toyota sedan

HIALEAH, Fla. – A 79-year-old Miami Beach man has died after he was struck by a hit-and-run driver Tuesday in Hialeah.

Police said a late-model red Toyota sedan, possibly a 2005-2008 Corolla, hit Orlando Quiala about 11:30 a.m. as he was crossing the street at East Fourth Avenue and East 17th Street. Police said the Toyota suffered front-end damage in the crash.

Friends said Quiala was in Hialeah visiting friends at a hardware store.

Quiala was taken to Jackson Memorial Hospital in Miami, where he died of his injuries.

According to Hialeah Fire Department officials, the victim suffered head injuries in the crash.
