MIAMI BEACH, Fla. - A man from Saudi Arabia was arrested Monday in Miami Beach after he beat his wife with a whip and then handcuffed her to stop her from calling for help, police said.

Abdullah Alhorir, 34, faces charges of domestic battery and false imprisonment after an incident Monday morning at the Monte Carlo Miami Beach.

According to an arrest affidavit, Alhorir and his wife of five years were vacationing from Saudi Arabia with their daughters when police were called to investigate a domestic disturbance in their hotel room.

When police arrived, officers saw employees leading a badly bruised woman away from room 1010 while her husband was trying to coax her back inside.

"I asked him to let the daughters go with their mother while I spoke to him," the arresting officer wrote in the report.

Alhorir told police that his wife woke up with "marks all over her body and was blaming him for causing them." He told police that he didn't cause them, but when the officer asked if the marks were on her body the day before, he said they were not.

The woman spoke to another officer in a separate room, saying that her husband had beaten her with a whip over the course of several days.

"She stated that when she tried to call police, her husband restrained her with handcuffs," the report said.

Alhorir was arrested and refused to speak to police without an attorney.

Police said they found "a leather whip and a bunch of black tie-wraps" in the room.

The woman showed police pictures of her children's reddened faces, claiming that Alhorir had slapped them in Orlando earlier during their vacation. She also said Alhorir poured scalding water onto her thigh while they were there.

Alhorir was being held at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center on $6,500 bond.
