PALMETTO BAY, Fla. – The Democratic gubernatorial candidates made their final rounds Tuesday, as did the Republican governor they're trying to defeat in November.
Republican-turned-Democrat Charlie Crist stopped in Boynton Beach as voters cast their ballots in the primary election.
Palmetto Bay was the final stop for Gov. Rick Scott after visits to Orlando, Tampa and his Naples home. Two others are challenging Scott for the Republican nomination, but it's a foregone conclusion that Scott will represent his party in the November general election.
"This election is about talk vs. action," Scott told Local 10 News.
Scott was referring to his presumptive Democratic opponent, who is vying to reclaim the job he once held as a Republican.
"We need a state that has a governor who cares about education, (who) cares about the environment (and who) cares about fighting for the middle class," Crist said.
The primary election is the nightcap to months of campaigning, mostly against Scott.
"I will do that," Crist said. "Rick Scott just hasn't."
Scott called Crist "a great talker."
"He gives nice speeches," the governor said.
Throughout it all was very little mention of lifelong Democrat Nan Rich, who stopped in Miami Gardens.
"What you've done is an indicator of what you are going to do in the future, and I'm not about to have an epiphany when I get to be the governor," Rich said. "I have very strong Democratic values and principles."
