Altercation leads to deadly shooting near gas station and I-95 in Pompano Beach

Deputies searching for gunman who fled after shooting

POMPANO BEACH, Fla. – A man is dead after a shooting near a gas station in Pompano Beach.

It happened in broad daylight, on West Sample Road just off Interstate 95.

Broward Sheriff’s Office deputies responded to a call around 11:30 a.m. Sunday about a shooting in the area of Northwest Third Avenue and West Sample Road and found the victim near the Crystal Lake Chevron gas station at 390 W. Sample Road.

According to authorities, the victim may have gotten into a physical altercation with another person at the gas station, who then pulled out a gun and opened fire.

The victim managed to get into the gas station and ask for help, and it was at that time that paramedics were called.

Pompano Beach Fire Rescue transported the victim to an area hospital where he was pronounced dead, according to BSO.

Witnesses said the gunman jumped into a vehicle and sped off immediately following the shooting.

Detectives are continuing the investigation.
