Attacker uses metal rod to hit victim’s head in South Beach

SOUTH BEACH, Fla. – Detectives are searching for an attacker who used a metal rod to hit a 64-year-old man in the head on Friday outside of a fast-food restaurant in South Beach.

James Hoskin said he was eating at the McDonald’s on Washington Avenue, near Lincoln Road, when he was injured. He said the man is about 5 feet, 5 inches tall, and was wearing a dark shirt and his hair in dreadlocks.

Detectives are working to retrieve surveillance video that could help them identify Hoskin’s attacker.

If prosecutors consider the metal rod a deadly weapon, the suspect could face a second-degree felony punishable by up to 15 years in prison.

Detectives are asking anyone with information about Hoskin’s attacker to call the Miami Beach Police Department at 305-673-7900 or Miami-Dade County Crime Stoppers at 305-471-8477.
