Suspect pulled from Pembroke Pines pond died, had lengthy criminal past, police say

HALLANDALE BEACH, Fla. – A man who jumped into a pond in Pembroke Pines to escape police on Tuesday has died, police say he had a lengthy criminal past.

Pembroke Pines police officers said a pursuit came to an end as they pulled a suspect from a pond on Tuesday afternoon north of Pines Boulevard.

According to authorities, Pembroke Pines police received a call from Hallandale Beach police after the man was wanted for multiple felonies and was spotted on West Pines Blvd.

According to a press release sent out by Hallandale Beach Police, the suspect previously used a pulley system from a 25-story building onto the balcony of an occupied apartment to evade police.

Officers later located the suspect and said the man jumped into the water near Northwest 155 Avenue and West Pines Blvd after a police pursuit. The scene unfolding right as elementary schools in the area were dismissing students for the day.

Neighbors in the area told Local 10 News’ Christian de la Rosa they saw the man being pulled out of the water around 2 p.m.

According to police, the man succumbed to his injuries.

The investigation is ongoing.
