Police: 2 juveniles die after being shot in car in Miami Gardens

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. – Police are investigating after two juveniles were fatally shot overnight in Miami Gardens.

According to Miami Gardens police, officers responded to the area of Northwest 17th Avenue and 187th Street around 12:25 a.m. Friday regarding a suspicious vehicle.

Officers said they found a four-door sedan, occupied by two juvenile males, who were suffering from gunshot wounds.

Miami-Dade Fire Rescue personnel also responded to the scene and worked to save the victims’ lives, but both ultimately died from their injuries, authorities said.

“That makes you feel sad because you’ve got young men -- it’s terrible -- it makes you feel terrible,” John Johnson, who lives in the area, said.

A Local 10 News crew was at the scene later in the morning as the victims’ bodies were on the ground, covered by tarps.

One body was seen by the driver’s side of a gray Nissan sedan, while the other was spotted on the ground by the passenger side of the vehicle.

Both bodies have since been transported to the Miami-Dade Medical Examiner’s Office.

“It’s kind of hard to wrap our heads around it. We have crime watch here in the community and the neighbors know each other,” resident Ralph Williams said.

Neighbors, however, told Local 10 News reporter Annaliese Garcia that this isn’t unusual for the area.

“Well, they shoot around here all the time,” Johnson said.

No other details were immediately released about the shooting.

Anyone with further information is asked to call Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at 305-471-8477.
