Homestead PE teacher accused of sex with 14-year-old girl

HOMESTEAD, Fla. – A Homestead physical education teacher already charged with lewd and lascivious battery after being accused of sexually abusing a 14-year-old girl now faces additional charges after police said two more victims came forward.

Joseph Edward Tolliver, 37, was arrested by Miami-Dade police in early February. Police announced additional charges Wednesday.

A police report said Tolliver would “enter through (the first victim’s) bedroom window to avoid being seen by her mother” and sexually abused her in a car.

The two new allegations come from a pair of 15-year-old girls who attend the Campbell Drive K-8 Center.

Both girls said Tolliver was acting as their in-school suspension teacher.

The two girls said Tolliver molested them throughout the school year, police reports stated. One of the girls said the touching happened more than 30 times.

Both girls told police that Tolliver asked them if they wanted to watch pornography with him, reports state.

One of the girls said Tolliver would “French kiss” her, while the other told police that he “bit her bottom lip” on one occasion before asking if she wished to view pornography.

In addition to already existing charges, Tolliver now faces 35 new counts of lewd and lascivious molestation of a child and two new counts of lewd and lascivious conduct on a child.

At the time of his initial arrest, Miami-Dade County Public Schools said Tolliver had been employed with the district since 2008.

Following his arrest in early February, a spokesperson said in part that the school district was “profoundly disturbed by the abhorrent allegations made against this individual” and had moved to fire Tolliver.
