VIDEO: Deputies seek driver who pulled machete in Oakland Park parking dispute

OAKLAND PARK, Fla. – The Broward Sheriff’s Office released video Friday of an incident of apparent parking lot rage in Oakland Park as they seek to identify the suspects involved.

The incident happened at around noon Aug. 5 at the Family Dollar at 2901 W. Oakland Park Blvd., deputies said.

According to BSO, the video shows a driver trying to reverse his SUV into a parking space when a Nissan Titan with three people inside pulls up and stops in front of his vehicle.

The victim told detectives he told the pickup truck driver to, “Calm down, give me a second to park.”

The driver did not calm down and instead, got out with one of his passengers and started to yell at the SUV driver, deputies said.

Things escalated further.

“According to the victim, the driver of the Nissan took a machete from his vehicle and began to scream expletives, threatening him while pulling the victim’s door handle,” BSO spokesperson Claudinne Caro said in a news release.

Caro said the men got back in the truck moments later and fled.

“The driver is described as a 30-year-old male, thin build, wearing a grey long sleeve shirt and khaki pants,” Caro said. “The passenger is described as a tall male, medium build with long hair wearing a black shirt, a black hat and black pants. The third passenger never exited the vehicle.”

Anyone with information is asked to call BSO Detective Lacey Fitzpatrick at 954-722-5803 or Broward Crime Stoppers at 954-493-8477.
