Police: Woman’s boyfriend kills her ex-boyfriend in Miramar

Suspect arrested after fatal shooting

MIRAMAR, Fla. – Miramar police responded to a domestic shooting that they said resulted in the death of a man early Friday morning.

Authorities said the incident occurred around 3:45 a.m. at a home located near the 6100 block of Southwest 39th Street, just west of 441.

A Local 10 News crew was at the scene where investigators placed evidence markers on the ground as authorities blocked off portions of the neighborhood.

Police said the victim was being transported to the hospital by his ex-girlfriend when she urgently called 911 for assistance. Despite paramedics arriving quickly, the man succumbed to his injuries while being transported, according to detectives.

Police said both the shooter and the victim had a romantic history with the same woman and were involved in an argument that led to the shooting. The suspected shooter is the current boyfriend of the woman, while the deceased was her ex-boyfriend, according to investigators.

Tania Rues, a public information officer for the Miramar Police Department, confirmed that the shooting was domestic in nature. The suspected shooter is now in custody, having remained at the scene after the incident and is reportedly cooperating with the investigation.

“We still have a lot of work to do, but the community is safe, “said Rues. “There’s no danger to the community.”

Neighbors told Local 10 News that they were woken up by the sounds of gunshots.

“It was about 3:15 somewhere around there, I heard about three shots,” said Steven Marcellus, who lives nearby.

Police have not identified the victim involved in the shooting.

Miramar police said they are continuing their investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident.
