Sunny Isles Beach commissioner speaks out after being handcuffed at PTSA meeting

SUNNY ISLES BEACH, Fla. – An incident involving Sunny Isles Beach Commissioner Fabiola Stuyvesant being handcuffed at a Parent Teacher Student Association (PTSA) meeting at Norman Edelcup K-8 has sparked concerns within the community.

Stuyvesant, who is a Sunny Isles Beach commissioner and parent of a 5-year-old who attends the school, expressed dissatisfaction with how PTSA funds were being managed.

She cited instances of alleged misuse, such as substantial spending at expensive restaurants, raising concerns about financial transparency and accountability within the PTSA.

“What they’re doing is not correct,” said Stuyvesant. “They went to the most expensive restaurants in Sunny Isles and spent $1,200.”

The situation escalated during Wednesday’s meeting intended to address these concerns, resulting in Stuyvesant being served a notice to appear in court on misdemeanor charges, including resisting arrest without violence.

This development has further fueled speculation and scrutiny over the events in Sunny Isles Beach and the dynamics between local governance and educational institutions.

Local 10 News has reached out to the Miami-Dade School District but have not received a response as of Thursday evening.
