Darien Turner faces premeditated murder charge

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – A 23-year-old man appeared in court on Sunday in Broward County after confessing to fatally shooting a 44-year-old man he knew well, records show.

Police officers arrested Darien Turner on Saturday in Fort Lauderdale’s Nurmi Isles after he allegedly fatally shot Christian Colon, who was previously married to his mother. A judge ordered a mental health screening.

According to Detective Ali Adamson, a spokeswoman for the Fort Lauderdale Police Department, police officers found the victim dead shortly after 10:45 a.m. Saturday, along Nurmi Drive, north of East Las Olas Boulevard.

Local 10 News obtained a 911 call Monday, just moments after the alleged shooting took place.

“There’s a man shot on the ground,” said the caller.

“When did this happen?” asked the 911 dispatcher.

“Right now,” the caller replied.

Turner appeared before a Judge Sunday morning where was seen with his arm in a sling.

Broward County inmate records show Turner is facing a charge of premeditated murder and is being held without bond at Broward Main Jail as of Monday morning.
