MIAMI ā The Miami-Dade County Commission passed a guard dog ordinance in its first reading Tuesday.
Commissioner Barbara Jordan sponsored the ordinance, which puts regulations on working guard dogs.
Commissioner Jose "Pepe" Diaz said he wanted to support the ordinance after watching Local 10's investigation into how guard dogs are treated.
On Feb. 13, the Broward County commission passed a similar ordinance, also citing Local 10's investigation.
"The investigation was incredible," said Diaz. "When you see things like this that are taking place, it's important to bring them out in the open. We saw your report and we figured it was important to move forward with legislation."
A public hearing on the ordinance will be held in about six weeks.
