Veterinarian specializes on hospice, euhanasia services for pets

Dr. Mary Gardner makes pets' final days more comfortable

MIAMI – Pet hospice is a relatively new option for terminally ill and elderly pets.

The International Association for Animal Hospice and Palliative Care is a growing group that includes family therapists. Dr. Mary Gardner said that she wants pet owners to feel less anxious and pets to be more comfortable during their final days.

As a veterinarian, Gardner believes in avoiding aggressive care and allowing the pet to die comfortable at home. If the pet owner can afford it, the service can cost sometimes more than 30 percent than euthanasia.

In the other hand, a hospice can be less expensive than aggressive care. Gardner is the co-founder of Lap of Love in 2010. The service has now gone nationwide.Ā  To find a veterinarian with Laps of Love, click here to visit the website.
