A firefighter treats some of the more than 30 dogs rescued from a house fire in Dania Beach.

DANIA BEACH, Fla. – Firefighters rescued more than 30 dogs from a house fire in Dania Beach, Broward Sheriff's Office Department of Fire Rescue spokesman Mike Jachles said.

The fire started Thursday night at a home in the 200 block of Southeast Park Street.

Jachles said one dog was pronounced dead shortly after firefighters arrived at the scene, while several others were taken to an animal hospital for further evaluation and treatment. Five dogs were listed in critical condition.

 

He said firefighters used oxygen masks and gave CPR to some of the dogs.

Jachles said 34 dogs had been rescued as of Friday morning.

The cause of the fire was not immediately available.

Firefighters have not said if any people were inside the home at the time.
