TAMPA, Fla. – A Florida dog that was proclaimed a hero after being bitten by a rattlesnake while protecting his 7-year-old owner is expected to go home Wednesday.

Haus, a German Shepherd owned by a Tampa family, was bitten three times last week after the snake approached him and Molly DeLuca.

ABC News says Haus' vet Jennifer Holm believes he'll be released after a few more checks.

The recently-adopted 2-year-old dog came between the snake and DeLuca, but suffered serious injuries during the rattlesnake encounter.

Haus has been kept at an animal hospital since the incident, and has made a remarkable recovery.

"I would almost say it seems miraculous based on the turnaround we had from last week," Molly's mother, Donya DeLuca, said of Haus' recovery to ABC's Good Morning America. "We're just really, really happy."
