KEY WEST, Fla. – Four pit bull puppies were rescued from an abandoned car Thursday in Key West, police said.
Key West police officers received a call about dogs in distress on Fort Street. When police arrived, they found the puppies in the car without food or water, wading in their own waste.

Witnesses told police the dogs had been there for at least eight hours.
The Florida Keys SPCA was called and arrived within minutes to take possession of the puppies.
