Monroe County sheriff's deputies want to speak with a man seen in surveillance video carrying what appears to be a puppy in his arm after seven dehydrated and malnourished puppies were found abandoned in Marathon.

MARATHON, Fla. – Seven dehydrated and malnourished puppies found abandoned in Marathon last month are the subject of an investigation into possible animal cruelty.

Three puppies were found in bushes near a Walgreens. Another was turned in by a woman who said she found the dog by the Marathon Shores post office and the final three were found in bushes behind the Keys Area Interdenominational Resources shelter.

Monroe County Sheriff's Office spokeswoman Becky Herrin said the dogs were extremely dehydrated, malnourished and had bad cases of worms that severely bloated their stomachs.

Surveillance video obtained from Cash Flow Jewelry shows a man carrying what appears to be a puppy in his arms.

Deputies would like to speak to the man and are asking for the public's help with information that can help them find whoever abandoned the dogs. Anyone with information is asked to call the Marathon substation at 305-289-2430.

The puppies, believed to be about 6 weeks old, are being cared for in a foster home.
