Kings Point resident reunited with dog after fire

Fire displaces 6 residents at Delray Beach retirement community

A Kings Point resident is reunited with her dog after a fire at the Delray Beach retirement community.

DELRAY BEACH, Fla. – Residents, including one very lucky dog, safely escaped a fire at a Delray Beach retirement community that was once the focus of an HBO documentary.

The fire started Thursday night inside a condominium building at Kings Point.

According to Palm Beach County Fire Rescue, residents at the complex got out safely and were relocated to the community clubhouse, but one family's dog was missing and believed to be inside the building.

Firefighters rescued the dog from a burning condo. The dog's owner was reunited with her pet in a reunion that was posted to Twitter.

Six residents and the dog were displaced by the fire. The American Red Cross was called to assist them.

Residents of the unaffected condos were allowed back inside.

"Kings Point" was the name of a 2012 HBO documentary about retirees living in South Florida.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
