Local 10's Jacey Birch, Trent Aric adopt rescue dog 'Radar'

Radar featured on segment with Dachshund Rescue of South Florida

For the last four years, Local 10 News animal advocate Jacey Birch has been featuring all of the animal shelters and rescue groups in South Florida.

Local 10 News made a commitment to help the homeless animals here in our backyard. You often see the pets that are up for adoption and available for you to make a part of your family. But recently, Jacey was featuring dogs with Dachshund Rescue of South Florida and trying her best to avoid getting swept away and falling madly in love with a little one dubbed R.C. That didn't happen.

Instead, Jacey ended up taking the munchkin home before the cameras had even stopped rolling. She quickly renamed the 4-month-old pooch with huge bunny ears Radar, as a tribute to his ears and her husband, Local 10 News meteorologist Trent Aric.

Since then, Radar has joined big brothers and fellow rescue dogs and Chihuahua mixes, Simba and Jagger, to make a dog pack Jacey refers to as the "three amigos."

Radar has also won over everyone at Local 10 with his adorable puppy skills. The ladies love to get kisses from him while Trent likes to utilize his ears to help with those "radar" forecasts. Jacey is known to make sure he is "close-up-ready" for his many puppy pictures.

Radar's rescue is a great example of why Local 10 features adoptable animals online and in newscasts nearly every single day. You never know when you may fall in love and save the life of a furry friend, or maybe that four-legged family member does a little saving for us humans, too.

In the last four years, since the Adopt-A-Pet segment began on Local 10, more than 400 pets have been featured and most have found their forever homes.
