MIAMI-DADE, Fla. – Nearly two weeks after Hurricane Irma, the Humane Society of Greater Miami didn't have power.
Florida Power & Light restored it, but a cable pole caught fire and the power went out again Monday night. Power was restored Tuesday afternoon.
After suffering about $500K in damages during the storm, the facility was planning to reopen Tuesday. Laurie Hoffman, a spokesperson for the organization, said employees were frustrated with the change of plans.
"These animals are our responsibility," Hoffman said.
Their generator only works on the first floor of the building, so employees had to rush to move the animals that were housed on the second floor.
They have close to 400 pets at their shelter at 16101 West Dixie Highway, in North Miami Beach. For more information, call 786-351-1244.
