INDIANAPOLIS – The Miami Dolphins have plenty of big decisions to make this offseason.

The Fins reached the Playoffs for the second straight year, but were knocked out of the Wild Card by the eventual Super Bowl Champion Kansas City Chiefs.

Quarterback Tua Tagovailoa is signed for the final year of his rookie contract, a 5th year option.

The Dolphins are deciding if they will extend him beyond that.

Head Coach Mike McDaniel spoke to reporters at the combine on Tuesday.

McDaniel said, “I think one of the cool things in this organization is how communicative and how well I work with Chris Grier as well as I can separate what my job is and what his job is. I’m very encouraged that Tua’s representation and our organization are hard at work. Those timelines are impossible to predict. My main concern this offseason has been communicating what Tua needs from his head coach and his offensive coaching staff. What things can we identify to continue the progression of your game the same way that we have since Day 1.”

McDaniel said he has believed in Tua since Day 1 and it’s stronger than when he met him.

McDaniel said every year the offense continues to evolve. He wants to create uncertainty and indecision with offensive scheme. In order to do that, McDaniel said there needs to be constant evolution.

McDaniel said, “What are we going to do with this set of players... Ultimately, what’s the best thing to serve the players. That’s naturally evolving. There’s never been one year offensively where we’ve been exactly the same.”

As for the defensive coordinator transition, the head coach said he wasn’t expecting that during the season at all.

After the season, McDaniel said there needed to be good conversation.

He said that spoke to Vic Fangio after the season.

McDaniel said it would be best for both sides to mutually part. He said it was not anticipated. But, there was good communication and they came to a good decision.
