Better than most? One putt on the 17th that actually was
“I was standing on the wood at the back left of the green, right when you walk up there, just off the green,” Allenby said. A PGA Tour digital media specialist recently reviewed the entire broadcast and said it was never shown. One person who saw it was PGA Tour Commissioner Tim Finchem, who had been returning from a meet-and-greet and paused to watch Allenby putt. DeChambeau makes big putts to outlast Westwood at Bay Hill
DeChambeau holed a 40-foot birdie putt on the front nine and a 50-foot par putt early on the back nine. He closed it out with a nervy 5-foot par putt for a 1-under 71 and a one-shot victory over the 47-year-old Westwood. For the second straight day, DeChambeau revved up thousands of fans on the par-5 sixth hole by smashing driver over the lake and leaving himself 88 yards away on the 565-yard sixth hole. Westwood tied him with a 30-foot birdie putt on the par-5 12th, only to give it back with a three-putt on the 14th. DeChambeau's birdie putt slid by some 5 feet and he shook his arms in celebration when the par putt dropped.
Tiger Woods to play with 11-year-old Charlie in Father-Son
The PNC Championship announced Thursday that Woods will play with 11-year-old son Charlie in the tournament that has paired major champions with their sons since 1995, the year before the 44-year-old Woods turned pro. “I can't tell you how excited I am to be playing with Charlie in our first official tournament together,” Woods said. The PNC Championship is Dec. 19-20 at the Ritz-Carlton Golf Club Orlando in central Florida. It allowed Fuzzy Zoeller to play with his daughter, Gretchen, and Arnold Palmer to play with his grandson, Sam Saunders. Until deciding to play in the PNC Championship, it was thought Woods ended the year at the Masters.
McIlroy, Cantlay the sole survivors to par at Olympia Fields
Olympia Fields is so tough it won't allow anything but his full attention on every shot. By the end of another steamy afternoon south of Chicago, they were the sole survivors to par. One week after McIlroy admitted to going through the motions without spectators around to provide the cheers, he had a 1-under 69 to share the 36-hole lead with Cantlay. He also missed the green on three of the par 3s, the last one leading to a double bogey. For non-majors, the tour said over par hasn't won since Bruce Lietzke at the Byron Nelson Classic in 1981.
Zach Johnson, normal guy from Iowa, wins Payne Stewart Award
He won as a rookie and reached the Tour Championship in Atlanta, where one of the perks was attending a ceremony to watch Jay Haas accept the Payne Stewart Award. It brought Johnson to tears 16 years later when he was selected Wednesday to receive the Payne Stewart Award. As it enters its second decade, the award now is regarded as the most prestigious on the PGA Tour. PGA Tour Commissioner Jay Monahan referred to Johnson as a fearless underdog and a statewide hero in Iowa for his charitable work in his home state. Zach would say hes just a normal guy from Cedar Rapids, Iowa, but in truth, he has one of the most compelling stories on the PGA Tour in the last 25 years, Monahan said.
Koepka's biggest challenge is history in bid for 3 in a row
Woods won majors at a faster clip than anyone. That's why the biggest challenge facing Brooks Koepka as he goes for a third straight PGA Championship this week at the TPC Harding Park in San Francisco is more about history than his troublesome left knee and recent form. Now it's about Walter Hagen, who won the PGA Championship four straight times (1924-27) when it was match play. For someone with this much history on the line, Koepka still has managed to avoid the spotlight in the weeks leading into the PGA Championship. He has gone back-to-back in the Masters and British Open, and twice in the PGA Championship.

Im definitely proud of myself for continuing the streak and I want to keep it going, Johnson said. Johnson came out of the delay and hit his tee shot on 16 into a greenside bunker.
Mickey Wright leaves a legacy of big wins, beautiful swing
Hall of Fame golfer Wright, who won 82 LPGA tournaments including 13 majors, died Monday, Feb. 17, 2020, of a heart attack, her attorney said. That was the essence of Mickey Wright. Unlike the modern version — Tiger Woods — Wright was consumed more with seeking perfection in the golf swing than utter domination, although one led to the other. Wright won the LPGA Championship and the U.S. Women's Open in 1959. Glenn said Hogan leaned back in his chair with a big smile, looked into the distance an said, “Mickey Wright ... greatest swing I ever saw.
