(AP Photo/Jacquelyn Martin)WASHINGTON – President Donald Trump and his allies are taking increasingly frantic steps to subvert the results of the 2020 election, including summoning state legislators to the White House as part of a longshot bid to overturn Joe Biden’s victory. But there has been no evidence of impropriety or fraud in Michigan, election officials have said. But election officials across the country have said repeatedly there was no widespread fraud. In Arizona, the Republican Party is pressuring county officials to delay certifying results. In northwestern Arizona, Mohave County officials postponed their certification until next week.

In Michigan, two Republican election officials in the state's largest county initially refused to certify results despite no evidence of fraud. The moves don’t reflect a coordinated effort across the battleground states that broke for Biden, local election officials said. Among key battleground states, counties in Michigan, Nevada and Wisconsin have all made it through the initial step of certifying results. Across the nation, recounts and court challenges must wrap up and election results must be certified by Dec. 8. Trump personal attorney Rudy Giuliani argued to stop vote certification in Pennsylvania on Tuesday, the first time he’d been in a courtroom in decades.

(AP Photo/John Locher,File)LAS VEGAS – The Trump campaign and Nevada Republicans asked a state judge on Friday to stop the count of Las Vegas-area mail-in ballots, alleging that ā€œmeaningful observationā€ of signature-checking is impossible in the state’s biggest and most Democratic-leaning county. He cited state election data showing that more than 98% of mailed ballots received in Clark County had been accepted as valid. ā€œThroughout this election, Trump and Republicans have resorted to baseless attacks to undermine confidence in Nevada’s election integrity," the Democratic party statement said.

The Trump campaign argues that sending ballots to nearly 1.7 million active voters in Nevada will impede Republicans ability to elect candidates because the law will confuse their voters and create incentive to stay away from the polls." The 16-page U.S. District Court filing was an answer to Nevada Secretary of State Barbara Cegavskes motion last month to throw out the lawsuit filed by the Trump campaign, Republican National Committee and state Republicans. Nevada argues that the Trump campaign and Republicans dont have legal standing to take the case to court and have failed to explain how theyd be harmed. They characterize the state law as a modest change to address the dangers of voting in-person during the COVID-19 pandemic. With Universal Mail-In Voting (not Absentee Voting, which is good), 2020 will be the most INACCURATE & FRAUDULENT Election in history," he tweeted July 30.

CARSON CITY, Nev. Nevada state lawmakers passed a bill Sunday that would add the state to a growing list of U.S. states that will mail active voters ballots ahead of the November election amid the coronavirus pandemic. Trump has claimed the mail ballots would lead to fraud and compromise the integrity of the election. Limited polling places in Reno and Las Vegas resulted in lines of up to eight hours. The U.S. Center for Disease Control has issued election guidance to provide a wide variety of voting options and limit crowds at polling places. In states such as Colorado and Oregon, which have mailed all voters ballots for years, the procedure is cheaper than holding an in-person election.

Advocates, experts warn against polling place reductions

There was only one polling place open on election day this week in Louisville, Kentucky, and voting went relatively smoothly compared to other recent primaries amid the global pandemic. Offering just one site on election day presumes we have reached everyone, and we dont have to work as hard on election day, and that thinking is dangerous, said Kristen Clarke, executive director for the Lawyers Committee for Civil Rights Under Law. The shortages prompted local officials to consolidate polling places across the country for the primaries. In Milwaukee, officials closed all but five of the citys 180 polling places, resulting in people standing in line for two hours. Fayette County Clerk Don Blevins urged state officials to issue guidelines for the fall election as soon as possible.
