Hill will oversee umpires and on-field discipline, and Ibañez will be involved in rules, equipment and on-field technology while contributing to scouting and amateur baseball initiatives. Hill and Ibañez will report to executive vice president of baseball operations Morgan Sword, and Martinez will report to vice president of baseball economics Reed MacPhail. The return to Texas comes after Young interviewed for the GM opening with the New York Mets, who recently abandoned an effort to hire a president of baseball operations to focus on the GM search. Young was the senior vice president in charge of on-field operations and the umpires with MLB.
