Giants president of baseball operations Farhan Zaidi values versatility, and La Stella provides it. He played 33 games at second base during the shortened 60-game 2020 schedule, 10 at first, six at third and another nine as designated hitter. The contract includes La Stella making yearly donations to the Giants Community Fund of $10,000 this year, $26,250 in ‘22 and $57,500 in ’23. To open room for La Stella on the 40-man roster, San Francisco designated outfielder Luis Alexander Básabe for assignment.
Klentak out as Phils GM after 3rd straight September slump
Klentak stepped down after a third straight September collapse left the team out of the postseason for the ninth consecutive season. “We’ve made progress but we haven’t made enough progress fast enough,” Phillies managing partner John Middleton said. Klentak was hired in October 2015 by team President Andy MacPhail after serving as assistant general manager for the Los Angeles Angels for four seasons. The Phillies had the worst bullpen ERA in the majors this season and it didn't improve after Klentak acquired four veterans in trades. The Phillies went 161-163 under Kapler before Middleton overruled Klentak and MacPhail and fired him last year.

Games on Friday and Saturday were postponed following the positive test, the first postponements due to COVID-19 for both teams. There have been 45 major league games postponed this season because of coronavirus concerns. But the Padres didn’t take the field and the team announced minutes before the scheduled first pitch that the game had been postponed.

The Giants just hired Alyssa Nakkenas the first full-time female coach in MLB history
Former Sacramento State softball star Alyssa Nakken is making Major League Baseball history by becoming the first full-time female coach in the league. Nakken, who was a three-time all-conference first baseman at Sacramento State and a four-time Academic All-American, was not the only woman considered for the role. According to MLB.com, the Giants also interviewed Rachel Balkovec, who was hired by the Yankees in November to serve as a Minor League hitting coach. After graduating from Sacramento State, Nakken earned her master's degree in sports management from the University of San Francisco (USF).
