The Browns drilled the Steelers 21-7 on Nov. 14, 2019, a game in which Rudolph threw four interceptions. Roethlisberger didn't miss a meeting thanks to advances in technology but admitted it wasn't the same as being on the field. This won't be the first time Roethlisberger has played on Sunday despite sitting out the entire week. Garrett has claimed Rudolph used a racial slur to provoke him, a charge the QB has strongly denied. Elbow room: Roethlisberger confident in return from surgery

PITTSBURGH Ben Roethlisberger is pretty sure there isn't a technical term for what doctors did to his shredded right elbow last fall. The Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback is pretty sure about one thing though: no one who has ever played his position has ever recovered from it well enough to continue throwing a football for a living. Roethlisberger admitted he'd been dealing what he described as minor elbow discomfort for a while heading into Week 2 against Seattle. The two-time Super Bowl winner underwent surgery shortly thereafter that anchored the torn tendons to his elbow. I still want to win Lombardys," Roethlisberger said, referencing the trophy that goes to the Super Bowl champions.

The NFL's indefinite suspension of Cleveland Browns star Myles Garrett for hitting an opposing quarterback with his helmet was upheld Thursday. The defensive end struck Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Mason Rudolph at the end of last Thursday night's game. James Thrash, a former player, upheld the indefinite suspension, the NFL said in a statement. Garrett had said an indefinite suspension was excessive. On Wednesday, Thrash upheld a one-game suspension against Browns defensive tackle Larry Ogunjobi for shoving Rudolph after Garrett's attack, but Thrash rescinded an additional $10,000 fine against Ogunjobi.

NFL upholds indefinite suspension of Myles Garrett in attack; he reportedly says Mason Rudolph used racial slur

Frank Jansky | Icon Sportswire | Getty ImagesThe National Football League on Thursday upheld its indefinite suspension of Cleveland Browns defensive lineman Myles Garrett over a violent skirmish on the field with Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Mason Rudolph last week. Garrett reportedly accused Rudolph of inciting the conflict by using a racial slur during their on-field confrontation Nov. 14, which Rudolph's agent said was "a lie." According to ESPN, Garrett told NFL officials at his appeals hearing that Rudolph used the slur during a brief exchange that intensified when Garrett used a helmet to attack Rudolph. Garrett's suspension requires him to meet with NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell before he can be reinstated to play, NFL spokesman Michael Signora said on Twitter. Rudolph's attorney, Timothy M. Younger of Younger & Associates, called the allegations false in a statement released on his Twitter account Thursday.

Myles Garrett appeals indefinite suspension for hitting Steelers quarterback with helmet

Cleveland Browns star Myles Garrett appealed his indefinite suspension Wednesday for attacking another player on the field. At issue isn't whether Garrett hit Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Mason Rudolph with his own helmet last Thursday. He argued that an indefinite suspension is excessive. Myles Garrett hits Mason Rudolph on Thursday, November 14, 2019, in Cleveland. If the league decides an indefinite suspension is, in fact, against the rules, they can impose a definite one, which could stretch well into next season.

NFL player Myles Garrett appeals indefinite suspension

(CNN) - Cleveland Browns defensive lineman Myles Garrett is appealing the indefinite suspension he received from the NFL after after he struck another player with a helmet, according to a source with direct knowledge of the appeal. Garrett's appeal will be heard Wednesday by two appeals officers, James Thrash and Derrick Brooks, who are jointly appointed by the NFL and the NFL Players Association, the source said. The NFL suspended Garrett following an on-field brawl last Thursday night that saw Garrett rip off Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Mason Rudolph's helmet and strike him on the head with it. Garrett's minimum suspension puts him out for six regular season games and any playoff games this year. The six games alone would make it one of the longest suspensions for on-field incidents in NFL history.

Cleveland's rare win over Pittsburgh ends in brawl

Quarterback Mason Rudolph #2 of the Pittsburgh Steelers fights with defensive end Myles Garrett #95 of the Cleveland Browns. (CNN) - The Cleveland Browns' 21-7 win over the Pittsburgh Steelers came with a little unannounced action Thursday night. Pouncey, Garrett and Cleveland's Larry Ogunjobi -- who pushed Rudolph to the ground from behind -- were all ejected from the game and will likely face lengthy punishments from the NFL. Garrett played through his block, hit Steelers quarterback Mason Rudolph and took him to the ground," it said. Browns quarterback Baker Mayfield called Garrett's actions "inexcusable" and "dangerous", and felt the last eight seconds changed how the win felt.

Fitzpatrick, Dolphins can't hold early lead in Pittsburgh

Ryan Fitzpatrick of the Miami Dolphins drops back to pass against the Pittsburgh Steelers on October 28, 2019. PITTSBURGH - The Pittsburgh Steelers stopped beating themselves long enough to keep the Miami Dolphins winless. Pittsburgh (3-4) spotted the Dolphins (0-7) a 14-point first quarter lead before steadying itself to win consecutive games for the first time since ripping off six straight in the middle of last season. The Dolphins couldn't hold on then, allowing the Bengals to rally for a victory. Fitzpatrick's second pick -- basically an arm punt by Ryan Fitzpatrick -- gave the Steelers the ball at Pittsburgh 3.

Steelers QB Rudolph out with concussion

(CNN) - A helmet-to-helmet collision left Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Mason Rudolph unresponsive and later diagnosed with a concussion Sunday. As Rudolph let off a pass down field against the Baltimore Ravens, a defender's helmet smacked right into his. Burt Lauten, a Steelers spokesman, tweeted Sunday Rudolph wouldn't return to the game. "Rudolph is leaving Heinz Field to be further evaluated at a hospital," Lauten tweeted. Now that Rudolph is out, the Steelers will look to Devlin Hodges who was promoted from the practice squad after Roethlisberger was put on the reserve/injured list, according to the Steelers' website.

Ben Roethlisberger out for season, needs elbow surgery

(CNN) - Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger will miss the rest of the season and will undergo surgery on his right elbow, Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin said in a statement Monday. "Ben Roethlisberger had an MRI on his right elbow Sunday evening and it was determined by the Steelers' medical team that surgery will be required," Tomlin said. Second-year quarterback Mason Rudolph out of Oklahoma State replaced Roethlisberger on the team's first possession of the second half. On Sunday, before knowing that Roethlisberger would need surgery, Rudolph said he would be confident in taking over if Roethlisberger were to miss time. Roethlisberger is the Steelers' all-time team leader in passing yards and touchdowns.
