by Howard Campbell[SOUTH FLORIDA] – Aston Barrett Jr., drummer and band leader for The Wailers, says their nomination for a Best Reggae Album award at next year’s Grammys, has broadened the legendary band’s appeal. Produced by Emilio Estefan of Miami Sound Machine fame, it is The Wailers’ second nomination; their first nod came in 1990 for I.D. One World, One Prayer, lead single from the album, is a collaboration with Shaggy, Skip Marley, his mother Cedella Marley, and Puerto Rican singer Farruko. Marley was the inspirational leader of The Wailers which achieved international fame as his band during the 1970s. His 29 year-old son joined The Wailers nine years ago after playing in Julian Marley and Lauryn Hill’s bands.

Family re-imagines Bob Marley classic for COVID-19 relief

The family of Bob Marley are covering his song One Love to raise money for coronavirus relief efforts. Stephen Marley, Cedella Marley and her son, Skip Marley, have joined forces to produce a new version of One Love, which will be released July 17 and will also include special guest appearances from other musicians. Not just lip service, but real action, Cedella Marley, 52, said in an interview with The Associated Press this week. Bob Marley died of cancer in 1981 at age 36.
