With time running out, South Florida officials urge people to register to vote

DORAL, Fla. – Time is running out for those who haven’t registered to vote.

The deadline to register ahead of the November midterm elections is Tuesday and officials in South Florida are urging eligible voters to make sure they’re registered in time.

Miami-Dade residents can register at county libraries and the election office from 8 a.m. to midnight, or at the Stephen P. Clark Government Center in downtown Miami from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Miami-Dade residents can check their status online or by calling 305-499-8683 (VOTE).

In Broward, residents can register in-person at any DHSMV location or at the elections office in Fort Lauderdale from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.

You can also mail your application, but it must be postmarked by Tuesday.

Here’s how to register to vote online.

Joe Scott, Broward County’s elections supervisor, wanted to clear up eligibility requirements for certain potential voters with criminal records.

“If you were convicted of murder or a sex offense, you never get your right to vote back,” Scott said. “But if you committed any other felony and have completed your sentence, your right to vote is restored.”
