Area of low pressure could become tropical cyclone, to bring heavy rains

Tropical storm warnings issued for western Cuba, northwest Bahamas

PEMBROKE PARK, Fla. – An area of low pressure could become a tropical cyclone, the National Hurricane Center said on Friday.

Tropical storm warnings have been issued for western Cuba and the northwest Bahamas.

The areas could possibly get up to 10 inches of rainfall, the NHC reported.

"Hurricane hunters are investigating the area. It does have a high chance of developing into an organized system, but either way we're anticipating tropical rain spreading into our area on Saturday," Local 10 News chief certified meteorologist Betty Davis said.

Davis said South Floridians can also expect gusty winds on Saturday, but there should only be light rain Sunday morning, as well as cooler weather.
