Hialeah Hospital 'all set on fuel for generator' after politicians step in to help

Sen. Marco Rubio said he received a report that Hialeah Hospital only had two hours of fuel left for its generator Sunday night.

PEMBROKE PARK, Fla. – Hialeah Hospital has plenty of fuel left for its generator after it received some help from South Florida politicians.

"Just got report @HialeahHospital has less than 2 hours of diesel left to run generator," U.S. Sen. Marco Rubio, R-Florida, tweeted Sunday night. "They need diesel or @insideFPL restoration ASAP."

Hospital spokeswoman Patty Vila initially told Local 10 News in a statement: "We do appreciate Senator Rubio's efforts to assist us, but we are all set on fuel for our generator. Our focus is on the safety and security of our patients, employees and physicians."

There apparently was a misunderstanding as Esteban Bovo, chairman of the Board of Miami-Dade County Commissioners, took to Twitter following Local10.com's original story and clarified that the hospital contacted him and Florida Sen. Rene Garcia after they were low on fuel.

Bovo said he and Garcia then reached out to Rubio for help in assisting the hospital's needs.
