Local 10 Care Force helps deliver supplies to those in need in Immokalee

Interiors by Steven G. helps collect donations after Hurricane Irma

IMMOKALEE, Fla. – Local 10 News is doing its part to help people still recovering from Hurricane Irma.

On Thursday, Local 10 employees helped load up a 53-foot truck full of supplies, which was sent to Collier County's hard-hit community of Immokalee.

"People there, the community there, had very little to begin with," WPLG community relations director Mayte Padron said. "It's a very low-income community, so when Hurricane Irma impacted that area, they lost their homes, they lost possessions and they needed help."

South Floridians answered the call, donating food, water, clothes, shoes, furniture and even children's books.

"Oh my God. It's amazing," Interiors by Steven G. spokeswoman Lisa Ricci said. "The amount that we collected in only two days to head over to Immokalee is just overwhelming."

The Local 10 Care Force is helping deliver the supplies to the Redlands Christian Migrant Association, a nonprofit that plans to distribute them to 20 or 30 needy families.

"It is amazing, but I just want to thank again Interiors by Steven G. They have been absolutely wonderful, and our Local 10 viewers who are faithful, thank you so much. This is possible because of you," Padron said.

"It was an honor working with Channel 10, and we can't wait to do the next one," Ricci added. "Hopefully, it's Puerto Rico. We have no problem collecting. We just need help getting it there. But we're ready to take on more."
