PEMBROKE PARK, Fla. – The sixth named storm of the Atlantic hurricane season formed Wednesday in the central Atlantic Ocean.
Tropical Storm Fiona was located about midway between Africa and the Caribbean Sea.
The National Hurricane Center in Miami said Fiona had maximum sustained winds of 40 mph.
Local 10 News hurricane specialist Max Mayfield said the thunderstorm activity "has become a little more concentrated," but it doesn't pose a threat to the United States as it continues to move toward the northwest.
Mayfield said there is a disturbance off the coast of Africa that forecasters are calling for a 20 percent chance of development within the next five days.
"But we've got plenty of time to watch that," Mayfield said.
