5K run held in honor of injured South Dade High principal

County declared the day for Javier Perez

HIALEAH, Fla. – Hundreds gathered at  Amelia Earhart Park on Sunday to help South Dade High School Principal Javier Perez on his road to recovery.

Perez was seriously injured in April when SUV struck him as he was coaching his 5-year-old son’s baseball team.

About 1,100 people registered for the Javi Perez Road to Recovery 5K Run/Walk, proceeds from the event will go toward Perez’s recovery.

The Miami-Dade County officials issued an official proclamation declaring the day for Perez during the event.
