MIRAMAR, Fla. – Police arrested a man Thursday in connection to a hit-and-run that left a man in critical condition in Miramar over six months ago, authorities said.

According to an arrest report from the Hialeah Police Department, Tremaine Maurice Herbert, 31, of Miami Gardens, is facing several charges, which include leaving the scene of a crash involving serious bodily injury, tampering with evidence and driving with a suspended license.

Herbert appeared in bond court Friday morning where a judge gave him a $36,000 bond and ordered that he is not allowed to drive nor make contact with the victim.

According to Miramar Police, the incident happened on March 4 when Jahmaar Williams, 31, was heading eastbound near the 6500 block of Pembroke Road when he was struck by a 2016 white BMW 528i.

“Not being able to hear his voice, not being able to touch my baby and he doesn’t respond, it’s extremely hard,” Williams’s mother, Eleska Moore, told Local 10 News in March.

Williams’ family told Local 10 News that Jamaar is known to bring joy to others, which is why it was hard to see him unconscious and with a breathing tube following the crash.

“(He has) a charismatic smile that would light up any room,” Jahmaar Williams’s father, John Williams, told Local 10 News on March 8.

His brother, Chris Williams, witnessed the crash after they were leaving a lounge in the area. He had this message to share with Local 10 News:

“My brother was way more than just a father -- he was a best friend, a mentor -- he was so many things.”

Miramar police said they located a white BMW Thursday that was connected to the crash, which led them to Herbert’s arrest.

Court records show Herbert has since paid his bond and is expected to be released from jail Friday afternoon.

A GoFundMe page was created to help the Williams family with medical expenses and it can be found by clicking here.
