CUTLER BAY, Fla. — A 40-year-old Homestead man was arrested Monday by Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office deputies after they said he opened fire on cyclists in Cutler Bay this past weekend.
According to an arrest report, the incident happened at about 7:30 a.m. Saturday near the intersection of Southwest 87th Avenue and 184th Street.
The report states Raimiero Rios was driving a black SUV south on Southwest 87th Avenue when he began honking at two cyclists who were also traveling south.
Rios then swerved the SUV toward the cyclists, forcing one of them off the roadway, according to the report.
Deputies said Rios then struck the second cyclist with the SUV.
After the collision, Rios pulled out a gun and fired a round in the direction of the cyclist, according to the report.
The incident was captured on video.
Deputies who responded to the scene said they found a bullet hole in the ground. No injuries were reported.
The report states Rios was taken to MDSO’s Cutler Bay Municipal District Station for questioning, where he invoked his Miranda rights.
Jail records show he is facing one count each of aggravated assault with a firearm, aggravated battery with a deadly weapon and discharging a firearm from a vehicle.
As of Tuesday morning, he was being held at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center, where his bond was listed as “to be set.”
