MIAMI — Two 23-year-old Hialeah men are accused of stealing more than $30,000 worth of Lego sets from Target stores across Miami-Dade and Broward counties in a series of thefts, according to investigators.
Josuan Delgado and Brian Lores were arrested Thursday at their homes in connection with the string of thefts, according to multiple arrest reports from the Miami Police Department.
Police said the investigation centered on what authorities described as a recurring “push-out” theft pattern: They said the men entered Target stores, loaded shopping carts with high-value Lego sets and pushed the carts past all points of sale before leaving without paying.
According to an arrest report, the latest incident occurred last Friday at the Target, located at 3825 NW Seventh St., in Miami’s West Flagler neighborhood.
Police said the two men entered the store at about 9:20 p.m., grabbed shopping carts and went to the toy section, where they loaded the carts with Lego products. They said about four minutes later, the pair pushed the carts out of the store without attempting to pay.
The merchandise was valued at $3,289.77, according to the report.
Authorities said the case was later linked to a broader investigation by the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office Organized Retail Crimes Unit.
They said a Target investigator alerted the unit about two suspects who were reportedly targeting Target stores and repeatedly stealing high-value Lego merchandise.
Investigators said they reviewed surveillance footage from multiple stores and said it showed Delgado and Lores selecting Lego sets, loading them into shopping carts and leaving without paying.
The report states that both men were on probation in Florida.
Their respective probation officers, who were familiar with them through their official duties, identified the men from surveillance images, according to investigators.
Five incidents in unincorporated Miami-Dade County documented in the investigation resulted in $15,252.22 in merchandise losses, the report states.
Authorities said the other Target thefts included in the investigation in Miami-Dade and Broward counties were counted, the total documented loss reached $30,659.69.
Among the incidents detailed in the report:
Police said on Tuesday, Delgado and Lores entered a Target on Biscayne Boulevard in Aventura, selected multiple Lego sets and left with the merchandise without paying. The reported loss was $3,761.82.
Authorities said two days earlier, the men allegedly entered a Target at 5601 NW 183rd St. in Miami Lakes and pushed two shopping carts filled with Lego merchandise through the front doors. The reported loss was $4,091.84.
They said on Aug. 19, Delgado and/or Lores entered the Target at 15005 SW 88th St. in the county’s West End neighborhood, loaded Lego merchandise into a cart, and exited with it without paying. The reported loss was $1,669.93.
Police said on Aug. 16, Delgado and Lores pushed unpaid Lego merchandise out of the Target at 7795 SW 40th St. in the county’s Westchester neighborhood, resulting in a reported loss of $3,068.78.
The same Target was allegedly hit again Aug. 5, when Delgado and Lores removed Lego merchandise valued at $2,659.85 without paying, according to the report.
Authorities said surveillance footage captured each of the alleged offenses.
Jail records show Delgado is facing charges including retail theft with others of more than $3,000 and third-degree grand theft. Records show he is also facing charges related to fleeing and attempting to elude a police officer, issuing a worthless check of $150 or more and alleged probation violations in an unrelated case.
Lores is facing charges including retail theft with others of more than $3,000 and third-degree grand theft, according to jail records.
As of Friday morning, both men were being held at the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center, where their bonds were listed as “to be set.”
