FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. — Broward County Animal Care is hoping to find a “furever” home for Smoke, a 2-year-old dog who has been at the shelter for about four months.
According to shelter officials, Smoke came to BCAC as a stray and is considered a long-term dog, meaning he has been there for more than 100 days. Broward County Animal Care currently has more than 20 long-term dogs in need of adoption.
Staff describe Smoke as a moderately energized, treat-motivated dog who loves attention and cuddling. He weighs about 45 to 50 pounds, is potty trained and has finished teething.
Shelter officials say long stays can be stressful and boring for dogs, so they provide regular walks, time outside and mental stimulation.
