NFL wild-card games show potential for alternate broadcasts
The positive reviews for Nickelodeon's kids-focused broadcast of last Sunday's NFL playoff game showed the potential of alternate broadcasts of sporting events. The Nickelodeon presentation not only provided a template on doing alternate broadcasts. CBS and Nickelodeon weren't the only ones to use multiple networks during Sunday's playoff games. What also made the Nickelodeon broadcast successful is that appealed to parents and kids. Some alternate broadcasts have fallen short because the on-field action was often ignored.
Ren, Stimpy to make TV comeback in new Comedy Central show
LOS ANGELES The brazen humor of The Ren & Stimpy Show will be revisited in a new Comedy Central version of the animated series. The original program that was a hit for Nickelodeon will be reimagined in partnership with Nickelodeon Animation Studio, Comedy Central said Wednesday. Ren, a psychologically challenged Chihuahua, and Stimpy, less intelligent than your average cat, were created by John Kricfalusi and debuted on Nickelodon in 1991. The Ren & Stimpy Show drew criticism from observers who deemed it unsuitable for children, citing its crass jokes and sexual innuendo. On Comedy Central, the show will join other adult-animation series including South Park and a revamped version of Beavis and Butt-Head, the channel said.

TV's sketch comedy boom is hip, smart and inclusive
HOLLYWOOD, Calif. - The new IFC sketch show "Sherman's Showcase" wasted little time in mocking preconceived notions about its expected audience. In reality, it's been four years since Keegan-Michael Key and Jordan Peele's Emmy-and-Peabody-winning Comedy Central show "Key & Peele" ended and TV's sketch market is growing increasingly racially diverse. He added that "I don't think any of these sketch shows coming out are going to look the same or even, or even deliver the same kind of jokes. While the name "A Black Lady Sketch Show" does emphasize the historical significance of this series, it was almost called the somewhat less inclusive "The Black Lady's Sketch Show." "Sherman's Showcase" is currently airing on IFC and "A Black Lady Sketch Show" airs on HBO.

Among the other research payloads headed for the space station is the first-ever bioprinter, which could use a person's cells to "print" them new organs.
