(AP Photo/Jim Mone)MINNEAPOLIS Cleveland's Shane Bieber tied the major league record for strikeouts in a pitcher's first two starts of the season, punching out 13 Minnesota Twins over eight innings in the Indians' 2-0 victory on Thursday night. Facing a Twins team that came in with the second-best run differential in baseball, Bieber allowed three singles in his eight innings. Bieber surpassed Nolan Ryan's AL record (25) for the most in a pitcher's first two starts of a season. Spooner, the man whose record Bieber tied, never matched the promise of his 1954 debut, when he threw two shutouts in the final week of the season. UP NEXTIndians: RHP Mike Clevinger (0-0, 2.57 ERA) takes the mound Friday in the second game of the four-game series.

(AP Photo/David J. Phillip, File)Governors around the country are warming to the idea of the return of professional sports to their states, with two caveats: continued progress against the coronavirus and no spectators in the stands. The heads of California, Texas, New York and Pennsylvania spoke Monday of the return of professional sports to their states, possibly as soon as next month. Gavin Newsom tied the return of pro sports with the state's continued progress against the virus. He also urged the state's pro sports teams to begin planning to resume playing without fans. New York state will help those major sport franchises to do just that, Cuomo said.
