South Florida weather: Wind advisory ends, temps to lower to 50s on Tuesday

High tides could cause flooding in low-lying coastal areas of Miami-Dade and Broward

After a few gloomy days of wind and rain, the clouds moved away on Sunday morning to allow sunshine to return to South Florida with temperatures in the mid to upper 70s.

Residents in coastal areas of Miami-Dade and Broward counties were left with beach erosion and power outages. Low-lying areas were still at risk for flooding with high tides.

Rooney LaBlanc was among the seasonal tourists who expected to enjoy the pleasant Hollywood Beach breeze but were faced with wind gusts instead.

“It’s different to see that boardwalk the way it is,” LaBlanc said.

The early Sunday morning drizzle and wind kept tourists away from Ocean Drive in South Beach. Terry Walsh, a Miami Beach resident, felt comfortable enough to go out for his morning walk.

“It’s really windy,” Walsh said.

Gusting caused power outages, according to the Florida Power & Light. There was a wind advisory in effect until 1 p.m.

On Tuesday, a cold front will lower temperatures in the 50s in some areas of South Florida. For more local weather details and a view of the live radar and maps, visit this page.
