Florida health officials confirmed an increase of 9,068 COVID-19 cases Tuesday and 64 more resident deaths as a result of the virus.
The 9,000+ new cases come a day after the state reported just 1,613 new cases, the lowest total in six months, likely signaling a delay in some test results being processed. Florida hadn’t seen over 9,000 new cases in a day since early February.
Only about 20,000 test results were processed Sunday, the smallest number in weeks. Some testing sites closed early because of weather. On Monday, more than five times as many tests were processed.
That said, the statewide positivity rate for yesterday’s testing was 8.16%, the highest in Florida in over two weeks.
The state has now verified 2,134,914 COVID-19 cases since the outbreak began and 34,120 resident deaths, according to the latest health department data.
Another 664 non-residents have died in Florida from COVID-19.
Coronavirus-related deaths reported in the past day include 13 in Miami-Dade County, two in Broward County and one in Palm Beach County.
There have been 87,287 resident hospitalizations attributed to the novel coronavirus in the state.

At least 7,449,475 people have received COVID-19 vaccines in Florida, with 4,565,915 people in the state fully vaccinated.
Miami-Dade has had 981,015 people receive shots, Broward has had 672,138, Monroe 29,169 and Palm Beach County 545,325, according to the latest numbers posted by the state.
