$25,000 reward offered for information years after teen’s disappearance in Fort Lauderdale

Sophie Reeder was 15 when she disappeared in 2017

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – The Fort Lauderdale Police Department is offering a reward of up to $25,000 for information that leads to the recovery of Sophie Reeder, who was 15 years old when she disappeared in 2017.

According to police, Reeder’s father reported her missing after she was last seen around 10 p.m. on May 19, 2017, at her home in the 1300 block of Citrus Isle.

Detectives later retrieved surveillance video that showed Reeder walking along Davie Boulevard in the early morning hours of May 20, 2017.

She was wearing a brown fur coat, a black dress, red Converse sneakers and white headphones.

“I know Sophie, and Sophie, you know, she would go home,” Reeder’s mother, Nicole Twist, told Local 10 News two months after her daughter’s disappearance. “She would have called somebody by now.”

A month after she went missing, an investigation into her disappearance led police to a home in Fort Lauderdale near Stranahan High School, where Reeder once briefly attended. A search warrant was executed.

“Now they’re looking at this case as a very, very serious crime, either human trafficking, abduction or possibly murder,” private investigator John Rode said at the time. “This is the first indication that I’ve seen in the case that they’re possibly looking into this case as a murder case.”

Investigators dusted for fingerprints and interviewed three men inside the home, but no arrests were made. However, police didn’t leave empty-handed. Twenty-five cellphones were seized, along with two computer towers, ammunition and a pair of headphones.

“Headphones which, of course, Sophie was wearing,” Rode said.

Detectives weren’t connecting some of the seized items to Reeder, who had run away in the past, but police believe this time was different.

Evidence found on her computer led police to believe that she may be with a predator or human trafficker.

At the time of her disappearance, police said she was about 5 feet, 1 inch tall and weighed about 100 pounds.

She had brown, curly hair and brown eyes.

Reeder would now be 20 years old.

Anyone with information about her disappearance or whereabouts is asked to call the Fort Lauderdale Police Department at 954-828-6677 or email them at SophieTips@fortlauderdale.gov.
