MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. – Florida Highway Patrol troopers were searching for a hit-and-run fugitive on Wednesday morning in Miami-Dade County.
Troopers responded to a multi-vehicle crash that caused eastbound traffic delays on SR-836, better known as the Dolphin Expressway.
According to FHP, the drivers of a Mercedes-Benz and a box truck collided on the eastbound lanes of SR-836 at Northwest 137 Avenue.
The driver of the Mercedes-Benz jumped out of the car and ran away. According to FHP, a crash that followed involved an off-duty Hialeah police officer.
FHP reported the driver of a black Chevy coupe saw the crash up ahead and slowed down when the driver of a burgundy Nissan sport utility vehicle struck the Chevy. There was another crashed black car in front of them.
Also nearby, off the Dolphin Expressway, there was another crash along the southbound lanes of Northwest 137 Avenue. A driver crashed into a fence near two parked food trucks.
Miami-Dade police officers and fire rescue personnel responded and that crash was also under investigation.
