STANFORD, Calif. — The Miami Hurricanes are set to open their season Friday night on the road against the Stanford Cardinal, with Local 10 bringing viewers a special Canes season preview at 8 p.m. Thursday.

The Hurricanes are preparing for their first game of the season and the first start for new quarterback Darian Mensah, who transferred to Miami from Duke.

Local 10 caught up with players at the team buses Wednesday night as they arrived at Stanford Stadium for a walkthrough.

Mensah spent the offseason working to build chemistry with his new teammates, particularly the offense.

“Yeah, I kind of just hang out in a group setting,” Mensah said. “I’ll try to hang out with certain groups of the offense like running backs, tight ends, receivers.”

Mensah said he also used extra time after practice to develop timing with his receivers.

“It’s not like a one-on-one thing, but, yeah, I’ll just hang out with them outside the ball, but, as far as the relationship goes, just trying to throw extra routes after practice,” Mensah said.

He said he also returned to plays where he felt he missed an opportunity.

“If I missed the throw that, you know, that kind of stuck with me, I’ll, I’ll come back and hit it with the same receiver in the same spot,” Mensah said. “And so, that’s kind of how I, you know, attacked that.”

The Hurricanes will look to begin the season with a win when they take on Stanford on Friday at 9 p.m. ET.
